Little Ones

I wrote this almost three years ago, not too long after Cruella and I split up. The kids seemed to be more relaxed and actually happy that she was gone which, to a certain extent, concerned me. Sometimes it feels like a lifetime ago and other times it feels like yesterday. We've come a long way since then, but I still worry about them and I guess I always will.

Little Ones

Lord, I thank you for my children…

These little ones I keep…

They make me laugh…

They make me cry…

They wake me when I sleep.

They are such a precious gift from you…

My words cannot explain…

How I can feel…

Their anger…

Their pleasure…

And their pain.

I need your help to mold them…

Teach them…

Help them grow.

Please don’t let me fail them…

They need me…

As you know.

I hope you don't mind me getting a little "mushy" every once in a while. We'll get back to the horror stories real soon I promise!

  1. Love the song and I don't think your poem is mushy. Fathers are human too, and we're allowed to express our feelings.

  6. Thanks for your comment Wild Bill and I'm sorry to hear about your situation. The best advise that I can offer you is; NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR KIDS! I know that it's hard and the whole system sucks, but if she's refusing you your visitation with your kids, you can't afford NOT to go back to court! Apply for legal aid, represent yourself, but don't let it slide or you and your kids will be sorry.

  7. I guess I am lucky, although my ex had a brain fart when it came to her and I. She never questioned me about my daughter. She is seven and we have joint custody, although I get her more than she does but that is good for me. There are so many people out there that have no idea how fathers feel about their children. I wish you the best of luck and always keep them safe. I loved the poetry also. There is nothing mushy about that.
